it’s all relative

In an earlier post, I wrote about the much dreaded two-week wait (2ww) while trying to conceive and how it seems like an eternity. Now a two-week wait seems like a piece of cake to me.

Before we began our home study, we were told it could take two to three months and I've read on other adoption blogs where home studies have taken SEVEN months! Our home study took SIX WEEKS and I was frustrated that it was taking so long. I think we may have set a record.

I used to feel sorry for women like you and me who are in this crazy cycle of waiting for a baby. My overall wait time hasn't been as long as you, but we've been approved on our homestudy for almost a year (it took almost a year to get approved since we're going through DSS), and it does seem like it will never happen. Your courage to continue hoping is really encouraging to me. I used to think it was crazy--I really did, but now that I find myself in this place, I guess I realize that somehow the reality of not being able to have kids simply brings about some loss of purpose. And I was never one of those women who just dreamed of having babies. I have a great job, great friends, a great life in general, but there's still a gaping hole.
Anyway, congratulations on completing your homestudy. Know that it might take a long time, but I do believe there is a baby out there for you.
